"The objective of the team is to win everything we can and finish as high in the overall as we can.. It was a complicated and technical prologue," De La Parte says

Victor De La Parte took the biggest win of his career when he emerged as the strongest in the Volta a Portugal prologue. The race is the biggest objective for his Efapel team and they go into the race with the intention of winning as much as possible.

Going into the Volta a Portugal prologue, Victor De La Parte didn't feature prominently on the list of favourites. However, the Spaniard defied expectations by taking a convincing victory.

Only defending champion Gustavo Cesar Veloso managed to finish within 10 seconds of De La Parte on the short 6.8km course and so he got the biggest race for his Efapel team off to the perfect start. For the insiders, however, the result didn't come as a major surprise as he won the prologue of the Grande Prémio de Torres Vedras a few weeks ago.

"I did not expect to win, I'm very happy," he said. "This was a good way to start the Volta a Portugal and was an excellent way to pay back the confidence that the team has placed in me. I had never won a prologue and now I have suddenly won two in a row.

"The objective of the team is to win everything we can and finish as high in the overall as we can.. It was a complicated and technical prologue. I stayed outside the spotlight and I am very pleased because I have never won a prologue in a race like this."

"It was a great start for Efapel-Glassdrive at the Volta a Portugal," sports director said. "We knew that the prologue was very demanding but we had riders with the skills to win at the very start of the competition. I congratulate all the riders of the team who were all very good.

"It is very good to have the yellow jersey but let's not lose our concentration. The goal is to have the yellow after the last stage in Lisbon and not now."
