Riding for Austrian continental team Vorarlberg, David de la Parte created a major surprise when the won the Tour of Austria overall. Along the way he won both mountain stages of the race.
“It is a truly unbelievable day for us. To win on home turf in front of so many spectators is like a dream. I now need a few days to relax and to comprehend what happened," he said.
Going into the race, his best result was the prologue win in last year's Volta a Portugal but he surprised on the climbs. On the famous climb to Kitzbüheler Horn, he even beat the time set by Riccardo Ricco a few years ago.
