Jasper de Buyst confirmed that he is one of the greatest track stars at the moment when he won the prestigious Ghent Six-Days for the second year in a row. Overwhelmed by his achievement, the young Belgian was surprised to bounce back so strongly from his recent crash in the World Cup in Mexico
For the second year in a row, Jasper de Buyst has the Six-Days of Ghent. Last year he did so with Leif Lampater at his side, this time he was joined by Kenny De Ketele. In a thrilling finale, de Buyst and De Ketele responded to all attacks.
"This is wonderful, especially after a very exciting finale," he told Het Nieuwsblad. "It's incredible to win this Six-Day for the second year in a row. Also, the way we did it, by always riding very offensively.
"I'm very happy, especially after I began this Six-Day with a lot of coubt. Had I recovered enough after my crash in Mexico? Would I have too many problems with my injuries? Until today, I always had those questions in my head. We can now celebrate and then we will prepare for Zurich. During the first days in Ghent, I did not have a good feeling. I knew what I had done to reach my best for this race and then I had that stupid crash in Mexico.
"Next year I will ride for the Lotto Soudal team. We have to wait and see how my road season will go. But now I am going to enjoy this great victory."
