Orica-GreenEDGE has been rocked by a doping case after they have announced that one of their star riders Daryl Impey has tested positive for Probenecid in February. Both the A and B samples have been tested and the South African won't do any racing until a final conclusion has been made.

Yesterday Orica-GreenEDGE announced their Tour de France roster. One of the aspects that took most attention was the fact that Daryl Impey had been omitted from the roster.

All the way through May and June, the team had done nothing to hide that the South African was set to be one of their leaders in the world's biggest bike race after his successful outing 12 months ago when he wore the yellow jersey for a few days. Impey even showed good condition when he won a stage in the Bayern Rundfahrt, holding off the sprint by launching a late solo attack.

Now the reason for his omission has been revealed as Orica-GreenEDGE has issued a statement to inform that he has tested positive for the substance Probenecid at the South African Championships on February 6 where he finished second behind Louis Meintjes. Both the A and B samples came back positive.

The team will make no further statements until a final conclusion has been made and respects Impey's right to try to prove his innoncence.
As per the team’s code of conduct, Daryl Impey will not feature on the team’s roster until the case has been closed and he is fully eligible to ride.

Impey is the first rider to test positive while riding for the Australian team. Last year Stuart O'Grady ended his career when it came out that the had tested positive during the 1998 Tour de France.

ORICA-GreenEDGE has been notified that Daryl Impey has returned an adverse analytical finding and has been notified by The South African Institute for a Drug-Free sport that he delivered a positive A and B sample for the substance Probecenid
