With two time trial specialists in the line-up, Cult Energy Pro Cycling could have pulled a strong result in today’s 7 kilometer long prologue launching the Driedaagse van West-Vlaanderen. The town of Middelkerke was the venue and the flat course near the Belgian shoreline formed today’s scene. Eventually, Anton Vorobyev (Katusha) nailed his first pro victory.
Best CULT Energy Pro Cycling rider was Gustav Larsson finihing 48th – 34 seconds behind the stage winner. According to DS Luke Roberts, Rasmus Quaade has to get re-acquainted with the road races:
“It was a bad day for us with a less than satisfying result. Rasmus started out really fast but underestimated the distance and lost power in the second half of the course. He needs to get used to being on the road again after a long indoor season on the track. Now, our chances in the GC are slim and we’ll have to focus on the bunch sprints with Michael Carbel and Russell Downing tomorrow and Sunday as well, ” said DS Luke Roberts.
