As we have informed yesterday, Johan Vansummeren’s participation in the Paris-Roubaix remained under question following his highly unfortunate accident in the Ronde van Vlaanderen, in which an elderly spectator was involved. Even though the Garmin-sharp rider escaped the crash without any major injuries, the consequences related to his psychical state were more profound and according to the Dutch media, forced him out of the season’s second cobbled monument next Sunday.
We still lack more detailed information about how exactly the dramatic accident happened, as the former Paris-Roubaix champion so far wasn’t ready to talk about the crash.
Reportedly, the 65-year woman involved in the accident has undergone a brain surgery and was put into an induced coma while her condition was most recently described as critical but stable. Such information wasn’t, however, officially confirmed.
Vansummeren suffered minor cuts and bruises in the accident and resumed his training last Monday.
