Team Novo Nordisk took on the final stage of the Tour of Hainan today, beginning in Wuzhishan and finshing in Wanning, China. After a challenging eight days and several long, hot stages, the peloton pulled no punches during the final 119-kilometer stage. The group raced fast from the start, staying together for a massive sprint at the finish, resulting in a crash at 3-km to go. Brenton Jones (Drapac Professional Cycling) took the win and Martijn Verschoor was Team Novo Nordisk’s best-placed rider at 18th. Sacha Modolo (Lampre-Merida) was the overall race winner.
“After yesterday’s queen stage there were a lot of tired riders in the peloton today, but the pace was still very high. We helped position Martijn near the front for the final kilometers, but a large crash split the bunch,” said Team Novo Nordisk rider Chris Williams (AUS). “After nine days of hard racing, we are all looking forward to some well-deserved rest.”
Brenton Jones (Drapac Professional Cycling) took the win ahead of Fabio Silvestre (Trek Factory Racing) and Benjamin Giraud (Team Marseille 13 KTM).
Team Novo Nordisk, the world’s first all-diabetes professional cycling team, continues racing at the Tour of Taihu Lake, beginning Saturday, October 31.
