Wiggins and Froome worked together for 2012 Tour champion. Yet in 2013, they barely raced together. The British duo were even thought as having troubles between them. This is not true, at least for now. Wiggins talks to Sky Sports in Mallorca, that he wants to race with Froome, the more the better.
"We had so much time apart last year, I think that in itself leaves a bit of a gap and we are the two elder statesmen of the team, the two riders who have had the most success within Team Sky, so it almost seems strange that we didn't race together." says Wiggins.
Last season, the pair only raced together in Tour of Oman, nothing else. The situation will change in 2014, as they're already both scheduled to race in Tirreno-Adriatico. Froome could use some help in Tour de France from the 6-time Olympic champion as well, as Sky team did not show enough mountain support for the Kenyan-born rider in 2013, other than Porte. And Porte will race Giro this year, which probably means less energy left for Froome. Also the race contains a stage that includes multiple cobbled sections which might suit Wiggins.
"I will be here in Mallorca for most of January and our first race together is Tirreno-Adriatico in March. I'm looking forward to that." says Wiggins.
