After three consecutive stage wins for Lampre-Merida, Damiano Caruso (Cannondale) took today’s final stage of the Coppi e Bartali stage race.
Caruso broke clear to cross the finish line alone, leaving Alessandro Mazzi (Utensilnord Ora24.eu) to take second and Boris Shpilevsky (Lokosphinx) to claim third.
In the final overall classification Lampre-Merida’s domination of the race was confirmed when Diego Ulissi maintained his grasp on the leader’s jersey ahead of teammate Damiano Cunego with Miguel Angel Rubiano-Chavez (Androni Giocattoli) completing the podium.
"My best compliments to all the 7 riders that raced for Team Lampre-Merida,” sports director Orlando Maini said afterwards. “Bono, Ferrari, Pietropolli, Wackermann and Malori gave their fundamental contribution to the double by Ulissi and Cunego in the overall classification. The results for the team are outstanding and they're important considering our forthcoming races".
