Rui Costa had a very unfortunate Ardennes classics campaign that ended with a crash in Liege-Bastogne-Liege. Despite suffering a contusion to his right shoulder, he has been declared fit to start in the Tour de Romandie later today and he hopes to improve on the third place he took in the two most recent editions of the event.
There has just the time to take a short rest and the another World Tour event is going to start: Tour de Romandie, scheduled from April 29 to May 4.
Much attention will be focused on Rui Costa. He had a bad Sunday because of his crash in Liege-Bastogne-Liege. Yesterday, the world champion underwent x-rays that excluded fractures on the right shoulder. Costa had a contusion to the right shoulder, in addition to grazes and to tendinitis that will be cured by the means of Tecartherapy.
The Lampre-Merida team will contain two kind of riders: the ones that will aim to end their month of April in the best possible way and the ones that will try to improve their condition in view of Giro d'Italia. In addition to the world champion, Nelson Oliveira, Rafael Valls, Elia Favilli, Xu Gang, Manuele Mori, Winner Anacona and Roberto Ferrari will line up for the Italian team in the mountainous event.
