In a race loaded with WorldTour riders, Angelo Chinello from the small Aero Zero team created a major surprise when he finished third in the Memorial Marco Pantani. The result came as a surprise for the Italian who hopes that it is a sign for good things in the future.
Going into the Memorial Marco Pantani, not many had mentioned the name of Angelo Chinello as a potential winner. However, the talented Italian created a big surprise when he sprinted to third place behind established stars Sonny Colbrelli and Gregao Bole.
"I knew I was feeling good in this season finale," he told Spaziociclismo. "I went to the Trittico Lombardo with confidence and I picked up a good fifth place. Today I knew I had another chance, I held onto the best on the climbs and in the end I did a good sprint.
"Sonny is definitely in great shape for the Worlds and this is a third place that satisfies me. It is the first year that I ride against the professionals and I am satisfied.
"Tomorrow I will ride in Prato, then there will be other events. I have nothing to lose, I try to do well in every race I do and I hope to collect a few good results.
"My resuts are a bit unexpected because I did not think that I would be competitive right away. I gave good signs and I hope they are a good omen for the future ."
