Everything is ready for the second edition of the Abu Dhabi Tour, the four-stage race in the UAE capital territory, starting Thursday 20 October from Madinat Zayed with an impressive parade of champions. The event’s success and growing stature means that from 2017 it will join the WorldTour calendar, the UCI’s highest event ranking.

It will be the premiere racing appearance for the Official Ambassador Mark Cavendish on the Abu Dhabi routes, as last year a shoulder injury meant he was unable to ride. Alongside the Manxman the entry list boasts the Giro d’Italia winner Vincenzo Nibali (Italy), Alberto Contador (Spain), with his seven overall Grand Tour wins, the trio of puncheurs John Degenkolb (Germany), Michael Matthews (Australia) and Diego Ulissi (Italy), the sprinter André Greipel (Germany) and three gold medalists from Rio 2016: the Italian Elia Viviani (Omnium), the Briton Bradley Wiggins (Team Pursuit) and the Belgian Greg Van Avermaet (Individual Road Race).
