Alberto Contador has announced on Monday that injuries sustained in the Il Lombardia crash prevent him from training effectively, and thus he won’t participate in the final WorldTour event of the season, the Tour of Beijing held from October 10 to 14. This means that Alejandro Valverde (Movistar) will become a winner of 2014 individual rankings, it is unclear, however, if the Movistar leader will take part in the event as the battle between Spaniards is over.
Contador has a well documented records in misleading media related to cycling, but this time it seems that the Tinkoff-Saxo rider won’t change his mind and appear in the truly exciting last edition of the race around the capital city of China.
“Bad news. Training today I hardly could pedal because of the knee, finally I don't go to China,” Contador informed via his Twitter account today.
