Saturday was a day of suffering for Alberto Contador (Saxo-Tinkoff). Not only did he fail to match the pace set by his main rival, Sky's Chris Froome, but he also lost time to other GC contenders and had to rely heavily on the aid provided by his domestique Roman Kreuziger.
"I didn't feel well today," said Contador after the stage when speaking to French television. "I hope this was merely an off-day and that things will turn out better tomorrow. For now the important thing is to try and eat and recuperate as well as possible and to try and analyze the events of today. I have to thank Roman Kreuziger who helped me tremendously today."
Contador lost 1'45" to Froome on the day and now trails the Briton by 1'51".
