Rodrigo Contreras will no longer wear the jersey of Etixx-Quick Step in 2017. Together with Fernando Gaviria, the 22-year-old Colombian moved to the Belgian World Tour formation last winter but despite an ongoing commitment he has decided to end his contract.
In consultation with manager Patrick Lefevere, Contreras has decided to terminate the contract. According to Ciclismo Internacional, Contreras has struggled to settle in Europe. The talented climber returns to his native Colombia.
Contreras had a bad debut season with the pros ranks. In January he had a big crash at the Tour de San Luis and he suffered a knee injury. A year earlier, he finished fifth in the Argentine race. Contreras did races like Vuelta al Pais Vasco and the Tour de Suisse but failed to finish both events.
