The Colombia team will be lining up at a Malaysian race for the first time ever when the South Americans take to the start line for the Tour de Langkawi. With climbs like Robinson Chalapud and Carlos Julian Quintero and fast finishers like Leonardo Duque and Jeffry Romero, the team has several options for the 10-day race.
There are new horizons to explore for the Team Colombia riders, who will take part in the Tour de Langkawi, one of the most important race on the Asian cycling calendar, for the first time. For 10 days, from Thursday February 27th to Saturday March 8th, the Escarabajos will deal with 10 tough days on the Malaysian roads.
The organizers have partially followed the patterns of the previous editions but the total distance has been significantly increased, with 4 stages over 200 km. Once again, the race is likely to be decided by Genting Highlands ascent, the demanding uphill finish on stage 4 while the 9 remaining stages are expected to suit the sprinters.
After going on the attack at Trofeo Laigueglia, Robinson Chalapud will be in Malaysia along with Juan Pablo Valencia, Carlos Julian Quintero, Duber Quintero, and fast finishers Leonardo Duque and Jeffry Romero, with Sports Director Valerio Tebaldi calling the shots from the team car.
“At this time of the year, it is important to put good kilometres in the legs, and the Malaysian race will provide a good chance to do that”, Tebaldi explained. “This is a 10-day stage race and requires good recovery, I am confident it will prove an very good test for what’s next.”
During the Tour de Langkawi, from Wednesday February 26th to Sunday March 2nd, the team will also be chasing success on home soil as Juan Esteban Arango and Edwin Avila will be racing for medals at the Track World Championship in Calì’s velodrome.
