Three months after beginning his first season in the World Tour level, Clément Chevrier discovered his first three-week race: the Giro d'Italia. On his website, the IAM Cycling rider told about his first days at the Giro d'italia.
"It was a strange feeling to find themselves there. I really enjoyed the presentation with an incredible fervor of the public. I could not wait to start this race!" A grand tour is something special. Apart from the competition, Giro is also a larger team organization, many spectators, an impressive racing organization. "Everything is tenfold", according to the French rider.
His team succeeded a great performance at the team time trial. Chevrier and his teammates finished 6th. "I wanted to do well, to do my best in order to help the team. My last team time trial was a long time ago, to the amateur ranks with Chambéry Cyclisme Formation. But everything went perfectly. And then our performance (6th) was very satisfying!"
Clement Chevrier did a great week but he admits he is struggling. "I often tend to continue my effort even if it does nothing for the team or my personal ranking. I shared a lot with Vincent and my sports directors who they force me to slow down to preserve me." His main goal during this first week: to do not waste strength to hold three weeks.
"I do not feel any frustration at the end of this week. I am pleased with myself, the feelings are good and I learn every day!"
The stage 8 was the longest of this Giro, with 264 kilometers. "I had never done this distance in the race or in training. I was really in the total blur. I am happy because I crossed the finish line with the best riders. It is a real satisfaction."
