After announcing three major goals in his first season at Dimension Data (Tour, Olympics, Worlds). Mark Cavendish says he is undecided on whether he will start the Giro d’Italia.
“I don’t know. I really don’t know. I’d like to, I’d really like to.” Cavendish recently told Cyclingnews when asked if he would ride the Giro this year.
He says he loves the race and has a good relationship with it, having 15 stages in his career in Italy’s biggest race. However, his team’s sponsors, Deloitte and Dimension Data, are big in America and he may be asked to ride the Tour of California as it is good for the sponsors to see their star rider win on home soil.
“I’m paid to win races and to be fair, to hard core cycling fans the Giro is the Giro and I love the Giro. I mean I really love the Giro and I have a great relationship with RCS, I love Italy and I have place there but commercially the Tour of California is good for sponsors.”
