In September Adriano Malori won the first Italian time trial medal at the World Championships since 1994. The Movistar rider finished second in Richmond, just 9 seconds behind Vasil Kiryienka.
According to Italian national coach Davide Cassani, the goal is the gold medal and it could be within reach already in Qatar next year.
“Finally, Malori did a great World Championships and now he is a global reference, not only for Italians,” he told La Gazzetta dello Sport. “In the future, we must study the courses well. At the Olympics, there are hard climbs and so it is less suitable for a rider with his characteristics. The Worlds, however, is flat and perfect for him. The gold medal is within his reach. Malori has improved a lot and has increased his cadence that has always been his weakness. Now he must make another step.”
The coach also analyzed the possibility of seeing Malori’s chances in the Northern Classics.
"The Northern classics should suit him but tactically it is difficult. However he could, and should, pursue the one-day races more vigorously.”
