In spite of CULT Energy Pro Cycling’s Michael Carbel’s young age, he will be starting his second Tour of Denmark this Tuesday. The 20 year-old Danish sprinter made his debut in 2014 at only 19 years of age. This year, he feels better prepared:
“I’ve had a rather long break from racing and haven’t been on the start line in a big race since the national championships. I have been training in Italy for the past three weeks. I have been working closely with InfoCrank in and around Livigno and after a few weeks of climbing and moto-pacing, I physically feel well-prepared,” says Carbel.
Carbel is already a well-respected sprinter on home soil and he has some pretty specific goals in the Tour of Denmark:
“The biggest goal is the final stage in Copenhagen, which would be a dream come true if I could get that stage victory in the pocket. Last year, 13 riders managed to deny the chasing field and not only did it completely ruin my chances of a win, it also changed the overall classification. So this year, I think the field will be more careful and it’s probably my best chance of getting a personal result. The first two stages could be crucial regarding the GC if the peloton splits up in the crosswind but on a quiet day, both stages could end up in bunch sprints,” concludes Carbel.
The complete line-up for Tour of Denmark is: Michael Carbel, Rasmus Guldhammer, Rasmus Quaade, Martin Mortensen, Michael Reihs, Mads Pedersen, Troels Vinther and Linus Gerdemann. The race starts on Tuesday and ends on Sunday on Frederiksberg, Copenhagen.
