The Tirreno-Adriatico was one of Movistar’s final rehearsals before the Giro d’Italia, as the Spanish team lined up with the squad which is expected to support Nairo Quintana is his quest to take home la maglia rosa. Thus, Eros Capecchi joined Igor Anton and Benat Intxausti in their duty to protect their Colombian leader in mountains, but Italian riders claims he has approached the Race of Two Seas exclusively as a build-up event, without any pressure on particular result.
According to Spaziociclismo, Capecchi explained that he needed to clock some kilometers in the Italian race in order to regain a good rhythm as well as to ride in the support of Quintana, who eventually finished the race runner up to unattainable Alberto Contador (Tinkoff-Saxo) and won the young riders classification.
The 27-year old Italian currently participates in the Volta a Catalunya which is intended to serve as another build-up event to refine the condition before the Giro del Trentino and his main season’s objective – the Giro d’Italian in May.
