According to Gazzetta dello Sport, even though some minor details of agreement are yet to be squared, it has been confirmed that Cannondale Procycling will fold with the end of 2014 season and the Italian bike manufacturer will merge with Garmin-Sharp as a sponsor from 2015.
Even though Italian media called the agreement between Garmin-Sharp team and Cannondale a merger, in fact, the Italian bike manufacturer will become a technical supplier and most likely title sponsor of the American-based squad with limited influence on decisions made by team manager, Jonathan Vaughters.
With all the technical staff left off and biggest Cannondale stars running out of their current contracts with the end of 2014 season, only nine riders with valid contracts are free to continue in the new outfit next year, particularly: Moreno Moser, Elia Viviani, Davide Villella, Davide Formolo, Alberto Bettiol, Alan Marangoni, Kristijan Koren and Matej Mohirić. Even though the young talents Mohorić and Villella might be warmly welcomed by Vaughters in his squad, Gazzetta dello Sport suggests that most of those riders are expected to be given a go-ahead as the American team’s manager is not known for his fondness for Italians.
In addition to that, the Italian newspaper suggests that Pater Sagan and Ivan Basso would join Saxo-Tinkoff, Paolo Longo Borghini and Alessandro De Marchi Astana, while Damiano Caruso has already signed a new deal with BMC.
