Dutch sprinter Wouter Wippert is almost guaranteed to join Cannondale-Garmin for the 2016 season. The 24-year-old will make the jump from the Drapac team.
In January Wippert won the final stage in the Tour Down Under and sprinted to three podium places in the Tour of California. According to WielerFlits, these achievements have caught the attention of Cannondale boss Jonathan Vaughters. According to the Dutch site, the two parties have a verbal agreement but are not allowed to sign a contract before August 1 as per UCI rules
In addition to Cannondale Garmin, three teams showed intestest in the sprinter. Prior to the National Championships, Wippert said that he does not want to ride for a Dutch or Belgian team.
"I think it's important to ride in a foreign team, because more is asked of you. I'm very fast, but would like to see what I can do in other areas too."
