The elusive rainbow jersey
This weekend Cancellara revealed that he wants to give the Ardennes classics a go, as well as the hour record. Now he admits that he would give up everything he has for the rainbow jersey:
“I have not yet achieved everything I want in my career… There is still a lot of opportunities left in which I can win the road race. I will give everything I have for it to happen [the World Championship title],” Cancellara told VRT in a television broadcast.
Asked about his Tour participation Cancellara remarked, “the programs will be set this week. I do not know if I’ll be in the Tour next summer.”
It is refreshing to hear that a man who has won as much as Cancellara, and who has been in cycling for many years, still has an unquenchable appetite for victory. The 32-year-old rider also revealed that he is ready to continue in pro-cycling; at least for the next few years:
“It is hard being away from your family, but that does not make me worry. I still feel strong and motivated to ride, but do not expect me to carry on until I am 40 years," he stated.
