After winning E3-Harelbeke on Friday, Fabian Cancellara (RadioShack-Leopard) was again among the top favourites at Gent-Wevelgem today but surprisingly dropped out in the feed zone.
“Straight away the race split in three groups and I was in the third,” Cancellara said afterwards on the team website. “We worked up to the second group and I was there with Popo [Popovyich]. We then worked our way to the first group but I had my bad day today. I suffered from the cold – I even had cold feet today. I feel a little bit drained from Friday too. But I’m really, really happy that Popo could stay up there and bring home a top ten result. Now it’s time to rest and hope that the weather will be different next week,” he concluded, referring to next Sunday’s Tour of Flanders.
