After many great results on the U23 scene, Jon Irisarri (09/11/95, Spain) is now ready to join the ranks of the professional peloton as Caja Rural - Seguros RGA’s first new signing for 2017. In fact, Irisarri will already make his professional debut with the team later this year, as he signs on as stagiaire from the 1st of August. The contract runs until the end of 2018.
Irisarri has been a fundamental part of Caja Rural - Seguros RGA’s feeder team, winning no less than four races this season so far. The 20-year-old Spaniard is a strong rider, able to stay with the best in the mountains but also very fast in a sprint within a reduced group. This year, he has been selected for the Spanish national team for two of the most important U23 stage races; ZLM Tour and Course de la Paix.
The signing of Irisarri once again shows Caja Rural - Seguros RGA’s commitment to developing young riders.
Jon Irisarri said: “After much hard work and many sacrifices, and thanks to Caja Rural - Seguros RGA, I now have achieved something I have dreamed of ever since I started cycling. It’s amazing to know that I will join the professional team in 2017. However, I still have many important races ahead of me this season, starting with the Spanish national championships, which I’m very excited about”.
Team manager Juanma Hernández added: “Jon has demonstrated that he’s one of the best U23 riders in Spain. He’s a very complete rider. He can do well in the mountains, he’s fast on the line and he has a good head on his shoulders. Last year, he already showed his huge potential and this year, he confirmed it by winning prestigious races”.
