At the Tour de Pologne the third stage – 166 km from Zawiercie to the city center of Katowice - took place. Another flat stage once again ended with a bunch sprint, won by Italian Matteo Pelucchi from IAM Cycling. He outsprinted Giacomo Nizzolo from Trek Factory Racing and Tom Van Asbroeck of Team Lotto NL-Jumbo.
Team Katusha was very active in the final part of the stage in the few local laps. The ream’s riders worked hard to keep the leaders in front, while Sven Erik Bystrøm was the rider who counterattacked in the finale, responding to an attack of Petr Vakoc from Etixx – Quick Step. Bystrøm and a few riders got a small gap inside the final kilometer, but later the sprinters passed them to decide the stage victory in a bunch sprint. Katusha’s best rider Sergey Lagutin was 18th.
No changes in the general classification after today’s 3rd stage. Marcel Kittel from Giant-Alpecin still holds the yellow jersey. Sven Erik Bystrøm is 20th overall, 16 seconds behind the leader.
Tomorrow the peloton will cover 220 km from Jaworzno to Novy Sacz with 3 climbs on the way.
