The Giro is over for Stig Broeckx. The 25-year-old Lotto Soudal rider crashed in the eighteenth stage and had to abandon. He broke his left collarbone.
Last Friday he successfully underwent surgery in the hospital of Herentals, in Belgium. It’s not clear yet when he can take part in races again. His comeback might be by the time of the Belgian Championships road race on 28th June, otherwise he’ll prepare for the last months of the season with a training camp in July.
“Stig broke his left collarbone, the collarbone was fixed with a plate today [last Friday, ed.]. Above his left eye he had a gash, which was stitched yesterday. He also has a mild concussion and several abrasions. He doesn’t remember much about the crash. The next weeks it will become clear when he can start racing again," Els Lemmens, team doctor Lotto Soudal, said.
