On Thursday at 19.00 Swiss time, Matthias Brändle will attack the Hour Record. His goal is to cover more than 51.115km, the Mark set by Jens Voigt on September 18. The Austrian IAM rider is well-prepared and confident.

Matthias Brändle is fully readuy to attack the Hour Record on the velodrome in Aigle.

"I really want to start. I am counting the hours and want to prove what I can do. I am very happur to start tomorrow at 19.00, trying to beat the Hour Record," he said yesterday.

The Austrian who will turn 25 in December, feels ready even though he will make his attempt in October after a long season that started in February.

"For the first time in my career, I am motivated to ride and train in this part of the season. Maybe it's because I had seven weeks without racing in July. I trained alone and did some tests, and then rode in Norway, Great Britain and at the Worlds. So I still have power in my legs for an hour," he says. He has done 61 days of competition this season, with wins in the Tour de Berne, the national time trial championships and two stages of the Tour of Britain.

Brandle explains how he will approach the key day. "I will do an easy workout, eat breakfast, get some sleep, go to the velodrome and warm up to be prepared for the start," he says before explaining how he approached the day leading up to the event. "I trained from eleven to twelve, had assage, got something to eat, slept, did some interviews a test between six and seven to prepare my body for tomorrow when I will give one hundred percent and do my best," he says.

The IAM Cycling rider also reveals how the idea of breaking the hour record came.

"The idea was in my mind for some time. My manager Tony Rominger did it in his days too. This year the UCI changed the rules. I did not pay much attention. When Jens (Voigt) broke the record, I said "ok, maybe I can also do it.""

From there he began the physical preparation and started to choose the equipment.

"Together with the team started to do test before the Tour de Romandie and the Tour of Lombardy, and then decided it was a good opportunity and went for it," he says.

Obviously, bike supplier Scott was also involved.

"Scott has also worked extensively on this project since June. They had to select the model, do some tests and choose the most appropriate bike. Together we made some modifications."  Brandle will ride for an hour on the new Scott Plasma 5.

And finally, jhe explains why he has chosen the UCI velodrome in Switzerland.

"We did different tests, but I feel comfortable in Aigle. The track is fast, but is shorter and it may be harder because you have more laps. I live nearby and for me it is the best choice," he says.
