Nacer Bouhanni (FDJ) did not have much luck in the first two sprint stages in the Eneco Tour and so he went into today's stage with only one chance left. The Frenchman grabbed it with both hands and now sets his sights on the Vuelta.
Going into the Eneco Tour, Nacer Bouhanni had three chances to go for a sprint victory but the multiple Giro stage winner got the race off to a bad start. In stage one, he was taken out of contention when he had to swerve to avoid a crash and in stage two he was caught behind a split.
Hence, he only had one chance left when he lined up at the start of today's stage 4. He started the stage with a great desire to boost his confidence ahead of the Vuelta and he did so when he took a very comfortable sprint victory.
"I made my effort 200 meters from the line where there was a headwind and I managed to hold Mezgec (Giant-Shimano) off," he said. "This is the race that I use as preparation for the Vuelta, but I really wanted to win today. If I win a stage in Spain, I will be satisfied."
