Tinkoff-Saxo was hit threefold in Tour de Pologne, as the tip of the bunch buckled in the fight for positioning on the finishing straight. Matteo Pelucchi took the stage win, while Poljanski, Kiserlovski and Rovny all were caught in the nasty pile-up that blocked all but the first eight riders. Fortunately, the squad didn’t sustain any serious injuries or time loss.

Only eight riders made it to the finish line in front of the big crash that affected the conclusion of stage two in Poland. Tinkoff-Saxo GC captains Robert Kiserlovski and Pawel Poljanski as well as Ivan Rovny all had to face the deck. However, sports director Bruno Cenghialta notes that the race strategy will remain the same, while the time difference were neutralized.

“Unfortunately, Ivan Rovny, Robert Kiserlovski and Pawel Poljanski were caught by the big crash that happened at high speed during the final sprint. Luckily, no rider suffered anything more than superficial wounds, there is no need for further medical examinations and our game plan for the rest of the race remains unchanged”, underlines Bruno Cenghialta.

Stage 2 of Tour de Pologne turned out as predicted and was decided amongst the sprinters after 146 flat kilometers. However, none had foreseen the havoc created by the big crash.

"Today was an easy day. We had an early break of five riders, while Giant-Alpecin, Orica-GreenEdge and Astana took turns in pulling and controlling the peloton. Until the start of the final circuit, the pace was very strong and all we had to do was just finish. We didn't really have any chances in today's stage, as we don't have sprinters in our squad at the Tour de Pologne. Ivan Rovny wanted to try something but he was one of the first to be dragged down by the crash that basically stopped the majority of the peloton in its tracks”, finishes Cenghialta.
