Last year Tom Boonen had to abandon the Ronde van Vlaanderen after only 19 km. Now the Belgian is ready for this year's spring classics, and approves of the changes made to the race route.
"This final is a whole lot more interesting than last year's edition", Boonen said after a reconnaissance ride earlier this week. "It will be more exciting for the spectators, but for the riders it will be something completely new as well."
The final lap is unchanged, but the Koppenberg has been moved closer to the finish, now standing in the peloton's way with 44 km to go.
"The new parcours is to my advantage. The harder, the better for me; and this new route will be very hard."
