For the first time since 2013, Maciej Bodnar (Tinkoff) has returned to the top step of the podium at the Polish time trial championships. He beat defending champion Marcin Bialoblocki (ONE) by 28 seconds to take his fourth title.
Winning the national title in 2009, 2012 and 2013, Maciej Bodnar has been the dominant Polish time trial rider in recent years. Surprisingly, he has failed to take the jersey in both 2014 and 2015 which surprisingly coincides with the time when he has taken his best results in international races.
Today Bodnar was eager to reclaim his crown on the 52km course in Swidnica and put behind an injury-marred spring season. He made no mistakes as he covered the distance in 1.07.28 to go 28 seconds than defending champion Marcin Bialoblocki.
The pair had been marked out as the overwhelming favourites and it turned into an exciting battle between the two professionals. In the end, the Tinkoff rider got the upper hand while Mateusz Taciak (CCC) was a distant third, 1.29 behind the winner.
The attention now turns to Sunday’s road race where Tomasz Marczynski is the defending champion.
