Philippe Gilbert missed out on the win in Fleche Wallonne but he is still hopeful that he will end his classics campaign on a high by winning the most important race of his season, Liege-Bastogne-Liege. BMC have announced a really powerful team to support him, with the likes of Samuel Sanchez, Ben Hermans, Darwin Atapuma, Amael Moinard and Peter Velits set to provide support deep into the finale.
The BMC Racing Team's roster for the 100th edition of Liège-Bastogne-Liège includes past winner Philippe Gilbert. Joining Gilbert, champion of the 2011 edition and recent winner of Amstel Gold Race and Brabantse Pijl is: Darwin Atapuma, Marcus Burghardt, Stephen Cummings, Ben Hermans, Amaël Moinard, Samuel Sánchez and Peter Velits.
Sunday's 263-kilometer race marks the end of the spring classics season and is the hardest of all the spring races. To be ready for the bigger tougher terrain, the team has made a few changes compared to Wednesday's Fleche Wallonne, with Stephen Cummings and Peter Velits replacing Larry Warbasse and Danilo Wyss.
Gilbert won La Doyenne in 2011 and aims to take his third win in a spring classic when he lines up in his big home race on Sunday.
