Christophe Le Mevel opened the attacking on the final climb of today's stage of the Vuelta a Espana. The veteran wanted to create some fireworks to celebrate his birthday.
Cofidis rode very aggressively in the finale of today's stage of the Vuelta a Espana. Guillaume Levarlet, Jerome Coppel, Daniel Navarro and Christophe Le Mevel all tried to attack on the Monte Castrove but no one managed to get a decisive gap.
Le Mevel opened the show the final time up the climb but was brought back when the GC riders started to play for the stage win.
“I wanted to attack earlier and enter a breakaway but the fight lasted for a very long time," he said. "We missed it but at the end it wasn’t too bad because that was a finale for strong riders. I attacked in the last ascent to make a fireworks as a gift for myself for my birthday today.”
