Carlos Barbero (Euskadi) took a surprise win in the Circuito de Getxo. Pello Bilbao (Caja Rural) finished 3rd on the finish line while team-mate Antonio Molina was in the break of the day. Fernando Grijalva finished first of the Neo Professionals and also gained a spot on the podium.
Pello Bilbao commented on the stage after the race to the finish line.
"The end was with lack of pace. The team turned out to be very good and demonstrated a good level for reaching the opportunities and objectives which come ahead of us. We had to stand up against Movistar, who were the favourites and we finished third. I want to thank the team for the confidence they had in me. Thanks to them I finished third," Bilbao said to the Caja Rural webpage.
Antonio Molina said he was happy with the way it all turned out. It was a good day for him and his is looking forward to Clasica San Sebastian.
“I felt fine and joined the breakaway. Then the team could go back in the peloton and was able to be quiet. I was able to fight on the mountains and I won on the mountains. I am very happy with reaching the podium due to the mountains and I’m glad for the feelings I’ve had. Once we were caught Txurruka tried but was catched. Then Bilbao finished third and Grijalva was the best of the neo pros. Next goal is the Clasica San Sebastian.”
