Carlos Betancur, who has not been selected by AG2R La Mondiale for the Tour de France, is currently in Spain where he is preparing for the third grand tour of the cycling season: the Vuelta a Espana. However, he admits it will be "difficult" to go for the Vuelta’s overall classification after being "very sick."
The Colombian on Vincent Lavenu’s team did not start a race since Liège-Bastogne-Liège, April 27, 2014. "This year I will try to do well in the Tour of Spain," he told Hora 13 Noticias de Teleantioquia. "The truth about me is that I was very sick after a toxoplasmosis (infectious disease caused by a parasite, ed.) It is therefore difficult to be at the start of the Vuelta, but I want to do better than last year." In 2013, he took 126 place, very far from the winner Chris Horner.
"I'd be happy if one day I win the Giro d'Italia, Vuelta a Espana, or the Tour de France. But I'll be even happier if I pull the title of World Champion,” he adds. Note that he took 2nd place at the World U23 in 2009, just behind some Romain Sicard.
