Yesterday Carlos Betancur achieved the best ever result in the Flèche Wallonne when he finished 3rd.
The Colombian rider attacked at the foot of the Mur de Huy, 800 meters from the finish line, and he came very close to clinching victory but he was caught just 50 metres from the finish line. The AG2R rider was eventually beaten by Daniel Moreno (Katusha) and Sergio Henao (Sky).
After he crossed the line, Carlos Betancur said “Last year I saw the attack of Rodriguez on the Mur de Huy and I thought that was a good option! I tried my luck but unfortunately I didn’t manage to win. I really believed that I could win and 50 metres from the line I still believed in victory. I think I can be happy with this 3rd place, for me and for the AG2R team. I feel very good in the team and I think I made the right decision by joining it. I get on with everyone, both staff members and riders, and I think that feeling good in the team contributes to my good results. I really have to thank all my teammates who provided a huge job today. I had some minor health problems this week but despite this the team trusted me and supported me until the finish line.”
