The Trofeo Playa de Palma-Palma concluded this year’s Mallorca Challenge. After a break with three riders was caught within the final ten kilometers, the sprinters took over to decide the race. Matteo Pelucchi (IAM Cycling) again won the bunch sprint by a small margin. Andre Greipel (Lotto Belisol) and Ben Swift (Sky) came in second and third. BORA – ARGON 18 rider Sam Bennett was again part of today’s decision for the race win and just barely missed the podium by finishing in fourth place.
“The race and the final went not perfect for us, but the fourth rank is a good result at the end. Cold and rainy weather conditions as well as some stomach issues are reasons why Sam wasn’t 100% fit today. In addition the lead-out didn’t go as planned. Given all those circumstances, the result must be considered even higher. We know what to improve to win a race. And in Qatar we’ll have the next chance to do so. Even though some of the World’s best sprinters lining up there, we know that all our guys are in top form. We’ll go to the optimum every day”, BORA – ARGON 18 sport director Enrico Poitschke summarizes the race today and the overall Mallorca Challenge.
The Tour of Qatar, which starts next Sunday, will be the next race for the BORA – ARGON 18 sprinters. The team will travel to the Emirate next Wednesday.
