"The finale was quite hectic. We were all together on the last five kilometers and I tried, despite the high speed, to put myself in a good position, which wasn't easy at all."

Sam Bennett scored his second stage win at the third stage of this year’s Tour of Bavaria in a bunch sprint. After winning the first stage and scoring a 4th place yesterday, the BORA – ARGON 18 sprinter won ahead of Nacer Bouhanni (Cofidis) and Ramunas Navardauskas (Garmin-Cannondale).

With his victory, Bennett takes again the lead in the General Classification as well as the lead in the sprint classification and takes the special prize for the best rider of the year 1990. Before tomorrow’s decisive individual time trial over 26.1 kilometers, Jan Barta of BORA – ARGON 18 is in a promising position. In the last two years, Barta scored a 3rd and a 2nd place in the time trial.

Sam Bennett after his second stage win: "The finale was quite hectic. We were all together on the last five kilometers and I tried, despite the high speed, to put myself in a good position, which wasn't easy at all. I kicked it quite late, only 100 m before the finish. It was real tough final. My team again did a great job.

"I am happy to have conquered the yellow jersey once again. But in the time trial I don't see many chances for me, to defend my lead. Anyway, it's so fun to race here in Bavaria. The streets are awesome, the atmosphere is awesome and the audience is completely thrilled. A great race!"

“With 206 kilometers and this tough profile we have assessed the stage as the hardest one of the tour. Therefore, it was comfortable for us that we did not have the yellow jersey on our shoulders. So we didn't take over responsibility until the second half of the stage and then started to support the chase of the break-away. Clearly, we wanted to ride for Sam today. The team has once again done an excellent job. Sam feels good and he has completed the lead-out quite impressive. If you win, you did everything right. Hats off to the team!”, comments Enrico Poitschke after the stage.

“We are very motivated for the time trial tomorrow. Jan is in good shape. But we do not predict any result because there are quite some excellent time trial riders lining-up here – Dowsett, Navadauskas, Sütterlin, Machado just to mention a few. We want to give our best but it would be foolish to expect to win against those competitors”, Poitschke looks ahead.
