On the second night of the Rotterdam Six Days in the Ahoy Arena two teams stood out as the strongest – and as potential winners. Home crowd favourites Niki Terpstra and Yoeri Havik won the first Madison of the evening by edging out Danes Jesper Mørkøv and Alex Rasmussen in the final sprint. The Madison was short, however, only 80 laps, and it did little to alter the overall standing.
Before that Madison, the Belgian duo De Ketele/De Pauw won the team elimination by beating Mørkøv/Rasmussen in the final. The Belgians rode the second Madison with malice aforethought and dictated the pace throughout. They duly won the Madison and gained enough point to gain a bonus lap and the overall lead.
Previous race leaders Stroetinga and Kreder had a difficult evening, losing a lap in the final Madison and not gaining enough points to be awarded a bonus lap. They already sit one lap and 36 points behind the Belgians, a gap that might well be impossible to close.
