Gijs Van Hoecke who focuses more and more on the road racing, is currently riding the Six-Days of Ghent. "This edition is certainly not a kind of farewell race," the 24-year-old from Topsport Vlaanderen told Sporza.
Van Hoecke knows why he will still ride the race: "I live close to Ghent and for me it is fun to ride here.
"I am here with the same feeling as Iljo (Keisse). I think I do not want to miss it. If it fits into my road schedule, I will always be here."
Van Hoecke built his career on the track. "A Six-Day race does not really belong to the track. This is something completely different, the atmosphere is so good here, especially if you come from the area. You just want to enjoy the experience.
In Ghent, Van Hoecke is riding with Kenny De Ketele but also has his mother on his mind. "She passed away around this time two years ago. I try not to think too much about it in the race. If I win, I will dedicate it to her."
