The Bardiani team was in the spotlight at the 68th Trofeo Matteotti (195km).
Luca Sterbini was author of a long breakaway that ended after 145km. During the last three laps, Stefano Pirazzi and Luca Chirico tried to attack but the right move was made by Russian Evgeny Shalunov (Lokosphinkx) who took a solo victory.
The sprint behind the winner was won by Pasqualon (Roth – Skoda), with Enrico Battaglin taking 5th and skowing good shape after a long period of training.
”The heat made the race really challenging," he said. "Together with my teammates we were always in the first positions and present in all the attacks. During the last laps, several riders were dropped and on the finishing straight most riders were without lead-out men. The sprint was a bit chaotic, there was also a crash and I found space close to the finish line. However I’m quite satisfied with my performance, because this was the first race after the Giro d’Italia. Now I can look with confidence to the upcoming races in August."
