Ivan Basso is expected to hold a press conference on August 17 at the Aquagrande Livigno Sports Centre, where he is reportedly going to do a short ride just over a month since he underwent surgery for testicular cancer.
His cancer was caught early, and the tumour was removed just two days after diagnosis. Basso is far from being given the all-clear but he looks set to return to his bike, although whether he chooses to race as a pro again is unclear.
“Now we have to wait. There are other exams to do but there is a lot of optimism, and I am the first. I am coming back home happy and relieved,” he told Gazzetta dello Sport last month.
