After abandoning the Tour de France after being diagnosed with testicular cancer, Ivan Basso has been told he doesn’t need to undergo any additional treatment.
The 37 year old underwent surgery in Milan to remove the tumour and after having numerous check-ups, he has been given the all-clear to race again by doctors if he wants to.
Although, Basso said earlier last month that he isn’t sure if he will race again, as he told La Gazzetta dello Sport.
“I spoke with Cadel Evans, he told me what George Hincapie said to him. ‘You have to ask yourself, apart from more money, what one more year of cycling will give you?’ I haven’t found the response yet.”
Basso has already spent time with Tinkoff-Saxo’s coaches and says he is potentially interested in continuing his career in a car rather than a bike. A final decision is expected to be made before the team’s 2016 squad first gets together in December.
