Having excelled in the Vuelta a Espana, Warren Barguil will finally get the chance to experience the Tour de France. The 23-year-old French talent will focus on his home grand tour and the classics in 2015.
Warren Barguil has moved from his native Bretagne to the French Riviera to continue his growth in cycling and is ready for his third season with the team that will now be known as Giant-Alpecin. At his new home, he is training with Amael Moinard and occasionally with Philippe Gilbert. Having finished 8th in the 2014 Vuelta and won two stages in 2013, he wants to take the next step. "The classics are the most realistic short-term goals. I really need maturity to win a grand tour," he tells L'Equipe.
Barguil will start his season at the Tour of Oman before he rides Paris-Nice and Volta a Catalunya where he finished 9th in 2014. Then he will return to the Ardennes classics where he was 23rd and 29th in Fleche Wallonne and Liege-Bastogne-Liege respectively, before his turns his attention to his Tour de France debut. The Vuelta is not on his agenda.
According to the French sports daily, he will have the following schedule: Tour of Oman (February 18-23), Paris-Nice (March 9-16), Volta a Catalunya (March 24-30), Amstel Gold Race (April 20), Fleche Wallonne (April 23), Liege (April 27), Tour of California (May 11-18), Critérium du Dauphiné (June 8-15) or the Tour de Suisse (June 14-22), Tour de France (July 5-27), Clasica San Sebastián (August 2), GP Plouay (August 31) Worlds (September 27) and Il Lombardia (October 5).
