According to L’Equipe, French national team coach Bernard Bourreau has confirmed that Warren Barguil will be a part of their squad for the upcoming World Championships road race. The young Giant-Shimano rider hurt his knee in a collision with a car during the Vuelta a Espana, but his daring performances in a the Spanish Grand Tour concluded with 8th place overall have earned him a spot nonetheless.
Reportedly, currently staying in Canada Bourreau contacted Barguil to be informed first hand about his health condition and, apparently reassured by the rider, confirmed his spot in the French national team.
The 22-year old Frenchman will stay in Spain after the conclusion of the Vuelta, but will follow a very light training programme in order to fully recover for Worlds.
“I saw the course and I think some sprinters might survive, even though it will be extremely hard. There are 4000 meters of elevation gain, while it was 3600 meters last year in Florence,” Barguil said.
