The Volta a Catalunya which will be held between the 21th and 27th of March 2016, will continue to have Barcelona as the venue for the final stage. The Commissioner of Sports in Barcelona, Marta Carranza, and the President of the Organizing Committee of the Volta Ciclista a Catalunya, Ruben Peris, have renewed their commitment to the final stage of the 96th edition.
The final stage will be held on Sunday, March 27 in the Park of Montjuic where the finish and the start of the stage will be held: after an opening circuit, the race will finish with 8 laps of the spectacular circuit which has proved that in can be decisive for the classification of the Volta.
"We remain committed to cycling as a sport which is enjoying a period of growth, particularly in the Volta, a race which strongly rooted in our sporting calendar," Carranza said. "We also thank the organizers for the renewed confidence in the final stage, allowing us to enjoy a magnificent sporting event that is open to all citizens and plays a big role in the Catalan capital."
Throughout its 95 previous editions, the Volta has always been linked to the city of Barcelona, becoming a world-class sporting event open to all citizens of Barcelona.
Porte won the race in 2015 ahead of Valverde, Pozzovivo, Contador, Uran and Aru. Joaquim Rodriguez won in 2010 and 2014, Daniel Martin in 2013, Michael Albasini in 2012, Michele Scarponi in 2011 and Alejandro Valverde in 2009.
