Carlos Barbero, Caja Rural-Seguros RGA, is new leader of the General Classification at Vuelta a Castilla y León, tied on time with his teammate Pello Bilbao. Barbero also finished second in stage 2 and so was close to the win. The good performance by Caja Rural was crowned by Bilbao who was seventh.

Carlos Barbero was on the podium no less than five times, leading the general, points and combination classifications and being the best Spanish and Castilla y Leon rider. The stage was a strange one as the longest descent was neutralized due to bad weather.

It is the 5th top 10 for Carlos Barbero in 2015: 9th in the Volta Catalunya, 4th in La Rioja, 3rd in Amorebita and3rd and 2nd in Castilla y León. The results prove his consistency and that he is close to his first win for his new team.

The second stage marked the 38th podium appearance and 15th top 10 for Caja Rural.

"We worked in the peloton until the race was neutralized and we realized that we could bring it back together for sprint," Barbero said. "I tried to save energy and hoped that a sprint would be the outcome. I would have preferred to win but it is not bad to wear the leader's jersey. 4th, 3rd, 3rd, and 2nd in the latest races show that I'm consistent and if I can continue in this way, I will get the win. The last stage has a summit finish. You can not do everything: attacks, lead-out, sprints and climbs. I have to be realistic. This is a stage of the climbers and I will try to help where I can."
