As it was expected, Jan Bakelants has confirmed joining Ag2r-La Mondiale for at least next two seasons after one Lear spent in the Omega Pharma-Quick Step outfit. However, the 28-year old Belgian is yet to sign a contract with a French team.
Rumors regarding Bakelants’ move to the Franch squad were circulating since last week, and even though the wily breakaway artist confirmed that he would join Ag2r for 2015 season, he also pointed out that nothing has been signed yet.
“As the team manager Vincent Lavenu is at the Vuelta the negotiations haven’t progressed,” Bakelants told Het Nieuwsblad. “There should be an agreement in the next days and it would certainly be for two seasons.”
“In these difficult times, with the disappearances of a number of teams, it is better to have certainty as a rider. Fortunately, AG2R-La Mondiale is also an advocate of a two-year contract.”
